Courses

One of the four strategic goals of the Finnish Bioeconomy Strategy states: “The bioeconomy competence base will be upgraded by developing education, training and research”. It is also specified that “Producing sustainable bioeconomy solutions for global problems requires multidisciplinary competence and combination of expertise…. As the bioeconomy aims for new business and jobs, the relevant education should also contain business studies and encouragement to enterprising”.

Turku (UTU and ÅA) researchers have been actively involved in fields related to bioeconomy already for years and even decades, and thus have a great potential and motivation to contribute towards not only the scientific, but also the educational aims of the “Advanced Bioresources and Smart Bioproducts” program. Our common goal is to function as a core unit in coordinating the scientific training in bioeconomy in the Turku region.

Concrete actions:

  • All supervisors of the “Advanced Bioresources and Smart Bioproducts” are strongly committed in encouraging their doctoral candidates to spend an internship of one to two months in a company.
  • Doctoral candidates are encouraged to include at least one course organized by the Turku School of Economics to their PhD curriculum.
    • recommended courses are e.g. courses belonging to the entity of “Entrepreneurship” or “Accounting and Finance”
  • Doctoral candidates aiming in teching positions are encouraged to include pedagogic courses in their PhD degree.
